Today

Well hello everyone!

I’ve been writing a lot of songs and I’m excited by all the different types! That is always my blessing and my curse - I write too many styles, I guess. I just like songs! I need to start giving them away for other artists to cover so they can be used and not just sit around- and so I can go ahead and write rock songs for rock guys, and pop ballads for pop chicks, and let them sing them!

I have two albums I want to make- one singer-songwriter style like POY and Lullaby, with songs like “Does Anyone Believe In Love,” “Fish Family,”  “Louisa,” “Her Blue Guitar” and “Passing Time,” and one up-tempo and produced like This Way that leans toward country radio. I’m not sure if I can combine them- and have half of the songs raw and gritty, and half more produced and mainstream. I guess I'm a classic Gemini!? And yes, I still want to do an American Songbook style album of standards, and maybe a few I write in the vein- but that's probably down the pipeline a bit.

I look forward to working with my label on my next album, and it will be nice to have their support. I definitely want to give them something they can work with radio-wise. I guess once Lullaby is released and I finish promoting it, I will just start to dig into the next one and see what happens!

I will try and sing a few bars from some new songs and post them so you can get a feel for the newer stuff. As always, I love your requests you post on here and on Twitter. Man, I really forget so many of the songs I have written, and often I have to go to Alan and ask, “Did I even write a song called ‘A Place In The Sun' that so-and-so requested?” And sure enough, Alan sends me a song I don't even remember writing! Haha!

So, I know I haven’t been to Europe or Australia or anywhere, really, to tour in quite some time, and fans are asking if I have plans to. I quit doing worked tours a few albums back because it took 2 years to do. That was fine when I was single, but it was hard on a relationship. I have tried to balance this career with a love life, and have had to let some things loosen up a little, like world touring unfortunately! - BUT I miss you all over there and would love to do some theatres solo acoustic and will start looking at it for sure. My only dilemma is that Ty and I want to start a family, and I'm trying to figure out what things to take on- Lullaby CD, country album, US tour, Ty’s and mine own TV show, Dancing with the Stars, world tour... ? A burden of riches!! So we will feel our way through this and see what we can manage, and still start a family since that's something that can't wait. I'm almost 35- no spring chicken! Haha! Ok, I’m pulling up to the TV studio so I’m gonna run. Keep checking out my Twitter, and thanks for all your interest and support! (Oh, and someone asked if I'm a vegetarian, and I'm not. I’m an opportunivore- I eat anything I have the opportunity to get my hands on!! ) Alright- bye! Xxj

Sounds like you have your priorities straight. :o)
adailey | April 30, 2009
Jewel, thanks for the blog as always. You have so much on your plate I am sure the choices get very hard to make. I think your marriage and kids should be first on your list. You are always going to have time to write and sing but you do not want to look back 10 years from now and say to yourself "boy I wish we would have had a child". A family is very hard and time consuming but the greatest joy in life. I have been married for 25 years and have 2 kids. Awesome experience.
daamodt | April 30, 2009
I am so excited that you are writing such a variety of material! This Way is my fave cd and I love how you combined so many styles on that! Keep up the great work!
We are spoiled to get to see you live so much in the US. I feel for your worldwide fans since they don't have the same opportunity - but you do prioritize so well. We all love every bite we get from you! hehe
Def a "burden of riches." You are in such demand these days. I would love to see a tv show with you and Ty. I think I speak for many of ur fans when I say how much fun it's been to get to "know" him on DWTS.
Opportunivore! OMG! LMAO!
Leapbaby | April 30, 2009
yay! new blog! wow, you have a lot of choices! haha. busy girl. all those choices sound awesome to me. so whatever you choose to do will be great. i know you get a lot of requests but your gool ol' "Connecticans" if you will, would love to have you here again. hehe. keep up the great work. im lovin' your tweets and your blogs! and if you didnt get my tweet. stay tuned for another fan surprise. It's possibly better than the first. ;) we luv yah!

PS. fans who are interested, go to jewel's message boards, go to fan art, and check out the rules. thx! No peeking Jewel!!!!! mmk. bye.

I think all these career decisions you have is a blessing, Jewel! I, myself, prefer you acoustic and simple, but I really enjoyed the song "Stronger Woman" that was a lot more stylized, too. I'm just ready for another album like POY regardless of the genre. One of my all- time favorites.
I think it would be really cool for you to share your songwriting with another artist. I love when you co-write and produce with Joe Firstman. I'm sure many artists would be thrilled to have a Jewel song.
Could you elaborate on the t.v. show you and Ty are thinking of doing??
Boy, I think DWTS was a great career choice for you and Ty. So much exposure. Just saw y'all on GDLA today. I figured you would be there, too. :)
Regardless, excited for you guys to start a family. I think that will come when it wants to, so who knows, right?
goofgal | April 30, 2009
Dear Jewel, Thanks for keeping us posted on your music and on Ty..I have to say, you have really stirred up all the petty, perfect people on the DWTS message boards. Do you have a hard hat and PBR vest handy cause the verbal ammunition is flying..I think it's funny and entertaining that so many people take this all to heart. Also you are being called to task for your spelling or mis-spelling. Try to work on that in your spare time HEHE. You are Ty's wife and friend and it is your duty to protect and defend,Way to Cowgirl UP..
cleeone | April 30, 2009
So many new projects and I wish I could do them all!!! Especially the family!
floridachic1093 | April 30, 2009
Hey Jewel, you don't have to do it all at once...but you might want to do some Europe touring before having a kid he he;) Well as long as you keep twittering and blogging and leaking some exclusive live performances of new songs I'm satisfied!
take care:)
Lara | April 30, 2009
Oh, that singer-songwriter album is a great Idea! I guess you could do it at the home studio in texas while pragnant and release it online for us to hear...promoting two albums would take you forever...this independent things like Lullaby fit us all pretty good, ok maybe just us european fans who don't get to see you on tour...
Of course it would be a shame for all this projects you have in mind to wait years before you can get to them...
Lara | April 30, 2009
thanks for sharing all this with us Jewel !!! you've been touring the US a lot these past few years...it's our turn now !!!! I always said I would travel anywhere in Europe to see you but a gig in Paris would be perfect !! :)
what is this TV show you're talking about ?? are you and Ty thinking about doing a reality tv show ??? then the cameras can follow you on your world tour ;)
Emilie | April 30, 2009
sounds like a lot of fun stuff coming up for jewel! so excited!! please come to ohio if you decide to tour, you didn't on your last one and there aren't many other states i can get to easily.

You should totally do the TV show...and while on the show have a kid and write a new album! Yay I just wrote your show for you! ;)

Jewel:
This is my first posting -even though I have been a follower of yours for years, and we have been a Ty fan forever. We have seen you both many times at the PBR events.
I am a neighbor - living on a ranch near Evant - just down Hwy. 281.
I am so excited about all your choices - but take it from one who did not have children until after 30 - get that over as soon as possible! Any it is a joy that far exceeds anything else in your life.
We love you and Ty,
Texasneighbor
Texasneighbor | April 30, 2009
I really love that song, A Place In The Sun, just great! I would be thrilled if you came to Spain (or Europe) on tour, Jewel. The last time you were here I wasn't old enough to go to concert out of my town and know that I can you don't tour outside US anymore. In the other hand, I understand your reasons for not being able to tour worldwide anymore, and of course creating a family it's a huge project, so go for it! Al least we'll have new albums! I'm looking forward to Lullaby!! Take care!

Jewel, Hi! Maurie here, my take on your dilemma is ..Take Ty and yourself back to Tx.Get the family going,It may not happin over night..keep writing songs,u have such a gift for it.(keep sharing that gift with the world)Put out a cd ever two yrs or so.(payes the bills)keep playing in the states..no need to be away from Ty and the(KIDs)ranch for too long.
Forget about Holiweerd, no place to raise a family...Let Ty Follow his dreams,(Rancher,Dad,Husband,Worldchampion cowboy,Fisherman.LOL)
Remember your Roots,Stay centered, Don't let EGO.. Fog your judgement.. When it's all said and done...all that truly Matters IS.. FAMILY..

Just my 2 cents......Maurie XoXo

Thanks for the blog, Jewel. I look forward to any new material, not to mention the new lullaby album. Take care and good luck!

Hey Jewel,
Do you have any plans to put Violet Eyes on any of your CD's? That song is really one of the best songs I have ever heard. I love, love, love it and would like to see it on a CD. Your the best Jewel!!!
golftrainer | April 30, 2009
Thanks for writing in,since i am not a Twitter guy..I see you have alot of different opportunities and the chalenge of Married life and wanting to start a family..My opinion DWTS tour and TV show would be a no go,your not like Sonny and Cher, but Ty could probably sing as good as Sonny..Touring would be great for my perspective...Then again a TV show gives you exposure to more possible fans...I hope you and Ty do what is the best for the both of you..Well look at it this way your Blessed to have so much opportunity in really bad economic times many face..Prob most stars lose sight of that..God Bless,,,Rich

I chuckled with you're "no spring chicken".Yes! you gotta pro-create another little Jewel. You better not make yourself an endangered specie.. you and Ty gotta propagate. So you and your offsprings may fill the world with music and art. :D Another Jewel in the making.

I love that you like so many styles of music and write so many styles. I am the same way wiht music, clothes, decorating. I think you can sing anything and all "generes" you have done have been done beautifully! I havn't checked out Twitter, i always am a step behind in this technolological world but if i get some more time away from college and all teh work it takes i want to try it out. I finally got my internet going at my new place and a laptop for graduation so...i finally got to read your blogs again and i missed it! Man, I also turned 25 last week and can't wait to be married someday and have children but gotta find a man first woah why am i writing my life story... i dunno love what you do, guess i've said that before too! Hi Jewel,
Thanks for mentioning Australia! We really would love for you to come out in any way at all! I have been really looking forward to seeing you at a show since I was 12!! There are a lot of artists who do 'world tours' that just don't seem to include Australia! We're pretty big you know...just too far away hehehe.
I'm looking forward to Lullaby! I'm planning on getting one for my baby niece hehehe. And I think it's great you write all types of songs - no matter what style they seem to be they are always well written. I love that your songs that tell a story.
Good luck on starting a family of your own. Giving birth and being a mother is something so innately natural for women, it is such a gift.

Hi J !!
Glad you´re righting! I hope your future work will bring unpublished songs, and I´m looking foward to see your future tv show!
About the Tour, I suggest you visit places you´ve never visit, like Brazil (hihi) and others, so that you don´t need to be too much time away from Us.
About the kids- I like very much, also, of a singer called Anneke, she´s from Holand and she has 36 years old, have a child and she manage to tour, with her husband. The thing it is that she does shows everynow and them, not for an year long, so that way it´s possible to keep both togueter. IF you want to tour, of course.
But the important thing it´s that you HAVE too many people in Brazil who would do anything to watch your show, at least 5,000.
Love ya J, keep on tweeting !!

I have always LOVED Fish Family... I could totally relate to that song. Nikos is another one you should consider. A Boy Needs A Bike, She Cries, So Close to Heaven, Maybe even Rocker Girl (Which I kinda remember you not wanting to record at one point... but maybe now is a better time, LOL.) That song makes me giggle. Hey with all of the weird rocker VH1 shows... now may be the exact right time for the world to here rocker girl.
ooohh. What about a housewife's revenge? Okay I'm done. I wonder if you know those songs.
chrissypf1 | April 30, 2009
Yay! Louisa and Her Blue Guitar! I have always loved that one! A few more "unreleased" faves are Nicotine Love, Carnivore, and Emily...

Hi Jewel:
I just woke up (9:00am in here). Outside it´s very windy, but it seems as the day will be wonderful :)
*
Thanks for sharing with us all the plans and the songs you have in mind (and papier) jaja.
**
The few songs you have named are really cool. I like them! Well... there´s more that you haven´t named and they are WONDERFUL!!!
***
I noticed that you are not a vegetarian jaja. I personally liked eating anything (between nature things, not donuts and greasy things). I mean meat, but I saw how the industry works and how they get to produce more and more meat and make them last even more feeding them with hormones and as happened recently one virus mutate to another and now we have the swine flu... And this is just the fault of how this system works!!
I´m not against the meat, but I´m against of how this INDUSTRY treat animals and live of them with ambition.
That´s why I become a self wanting vegetarian!!!

it follows below jaja...

Congrats for 1th May (day of worker)!!!
In four days come Lullaby out. I SO wanna hear these new recorded songs :)

Well... I hope I haven´t bother you too much...

Hi Jewel,
Its fantastic you have so many options - things always unfold as they are meant to.
I am in Ireland and would love so much for you to come over and play. I am a huge fan and you are, undoubtedly, the single most influential artist that has ever affected me. I can never exactly pinpoint the why or the how but you just have the gift! You taught me how to sing - I think listening to you over the years really taught me how to use my own voice. Sound mad but its true!!
Im really looking forward to your Lullaby album although it always takes FOREVER to reach here.
Good luck with everything. Never doubt how much your music means to us..

Good day, Jewel! You are a song factory. Its nice you have Allan to archive the songs you have written in the past. Maybe its time to let other singers sing your songs that need to be heard. Don't let it just sit around. we don't know what jewel kind of song would be dug in. It could be a another treasure mine. Atleast, you can play around on others' peoples' perspective.
uummm.. I can start building my own muse here..
"I have seen love in many faces
I have been to many places
My heart never been compelled to sing
though the melody are there for me"
*
or...
"I have heard your heart beat
In the deep silence of my heart
Here in the sacred cold mountain
As I'm fearful of the night that grows deeper."
*
But those lines were just stuck inside my notebook inside my drawer. Just waiting to have energy to come around. They're my snippets of melody inside my mind.

Hi Jewel and Ty, I love catching up on what you are all doing. I watched this past weeks DWTS on Wednesday... Wow! All the blogs are true! Ty looked fantastic! I loved the spray-tan. I am so happy for both of you. The group dance was outstanding, and Ty and Chelsie are performing wonderfully! Didn't like what the one judge said about Ty, "...getting ready to hit the trail." (I guess he later changed his tune.) Anyway, I'm rooting for Ty and Chelsie all the way, and not just because I'm a Jewel Fan. (You looked beautiful in the audience, by the way, Jewel!) Can't wait to get, "Lullabye." I guess I should order online, to get an autographed copy. It's great how you are able to record and produce your own CD, at home, no less. Hope it goes over really well, with all your creative marketing strategies. I'm sure it will! I just watched you with Chris Isaaks, on youtube...very cool. My thoughts on your future endeavors: continue singing, recording, touring, and a start a family.

Hi Jewel, It's nice to see you Can right in many different styles. Too many artists' songs sound alike. I love your music & love watching Ty on DWTS. He was so shy at first and nervous. DWTS has created a wonderful confidence in him.
You two are an awesome couple! I had my first and only child at 35. She's now 13 and a beautiful girl. It'll happen when you least expect it!
Georgygurl | May 1, 2009
You are a fantastic singer/songwriter. In my opinion, no one else should sing the songs you've written. They would not do them justice. Maybe you should consider a clone! FYI-an acoustic appearance in Florida would be nice!
g8rgirl27 | May 1, 2009
Jewel, you're definitely the most creative and talented singer/songwriter as well as story teller on earth. I love the idea of another "Pieces Of You" and "Lullaby" kind of record and another country record in the vein of "This Way" (I love country songs like "Cleveland" and "Stephenville, TX").
Doing an album with american standards ??? What a great idea ! I'd like to hear you singing "Dream A Little Dream Of You".
Thanks for blogging !

Hello~
My boyfriend and I will be attending your concert at the Villa Montalvo in Saratoga, CA, I hope!
I have seen you in concert and you have such a beautiful voice and your hilarious!!! My boyfriend has never seen you in concert and I am so excited for him to.
We wish we could bring our daughter with us, she is two, she LOVES your music. She would be too wild and try to climb on the stage with you.
Take Care.

Hey Jewel!
I'm really glad that you're writing almost everyday on Twitter. It feels good to have our idols writing to update fans...
I feel excited that you've been writing a lot of songs too! Don't worry about their style because I think your fans will love all of them! ;)
If you don't know what to do with all of these songs, just release an album with 2 discs! We would love it, for sure!!!

I had my last at 39, just a few months shy of 40. Let's just call him a bonus baby -- LOL! He's 8 now. So 35 is not so bad. When you do get pregnant, you decide to have an amnio, go to a place that does a lot of them. It's not painful to have done but experience helps. And start taking folic acid now. And don't let them break your water without telling you why. Oh, I have a list of helpful advice. LOL!
lindac | May 1, 2009
Jewel, I'm happy you write different styles of music because I love all sorts of genres & also I got into some Country music because of your Perfectly Clear album, which I love :)
I'm sad to hear about you won't be touring Europe, as I come from the UK & would love to see you live! But then I guess starting a family means you have to cut touring in some places, but I'm sure you'll be a great mother :)
Take care -xx
chasingdownthedawn | May 1, 2009
Someone mentioned Violet Eyes earlier. Yes, when do you plan to record that on CD? I heard that for the first time on your Essential Song Book, it makes me cry every time. It's actually almost torture to listen to because it's so personal to me, but that's what I think music is all about and what I love about music, how it brings out our emotions. Sometimes we forget how to feel in everyday life.

Just joined the site. I am so excited to see that you really make your site your own! So many artists dont even look at their site- much less blog on it. I remember when I was around 14 I first heard you on the radio, and saw you perform on MTV (I believe it was spring break). I was in love! I wrote a lot of poetry at that time, so I connected with you instantly. I love that you remain true to your roots. You're an amazing artist. Thank you for being a great role model for girls like me (now totally a woman at 26) to grow up with. :)

Just catching up on your site after a busy week....Wow, What a blog to have missed!! You sure know how to keep your fans excited for more. You definately have a wealth of songs to choose from for your next albums, not to mention the many I'm sure we've never heard. I thought I'd compile all the requests mentioned so far here for you. I always like to hear of others favaorite unreleased material--- Does Anyone Believe In Love, Fish Family, Louisa and Her Blue Guitar, Passing Time, Nicotine Love, Carnivore, Emily, A Boy Needs A Bike, She Cries, So Close to Heaven, Rocker Girl, Don't Care, Damn the Daises, A Place In The Sun, Marital Carnival, Violet Eyes, Lemondrops & Clover, She Cries, Tiny Love Spaces, Summer Home In Your Arms. Wow! 20 Songs right there. With just a couple more you could have 2 new albums from these! However, I'd like to point out for those who may not know, Louisa and Her Blue Guitar is available on a cd released by Starbucks called Hear Music XM Radio Sessions V
jewelgrrl | May 2, 2009
That cd also had The Other Woman and a great acoustic version of Intuition on it. Emily was released on WWSYS single in Germany and Australia as well as Jupiter single in the U.S.
I'd like to add that I'm Fading is probably my favorite unreleased song of yours. Close behind would be A Boy Needs a Bike, Carnivore, and My Place In the Sun. Although since recently hearing Get Ready Boy it's catching up. I think any of these would fit well with the country genre.
I'm sure anything you release will be great though. As far as the family goes, if when you decide to start trying it doesn't happen, there is always adoption. There are so many children out there who are need of a loving family. Thanks for the great blog and for keeping us filled in on what is upcoming.

Oops... Missed one already available. You can find Rocker Girl on YWMFM German single or UK single.
jewelgrrl | May 2, 2009
Hey Jewel,
You could always do what Paul McCartney did with his wife & kids. He taught Linda to play piano and sing and they took the kids with them. Maybe you could teach Ty some percussion instruments - at least the tambourine? Hey, if he could learn how to dance - why not play something too? ;)
I love your diversity with writing so many different types of songs. I write song lyrics (not music) just for fun and have a wide variety of types too. Some would make good country, rock, soul, acoustic, pop, etc. Just depends on my mood and what moves me too.
It was interesting how U said songs just come to you. Often lyrics come to me too. But no melody - sometime I have an idea of a type but not usually anything specific. I WISH I did. Like Bernie Taupin, I need to find my "Elton John" or many diff. people to write music to my tunes.
Anyway, thanks again for everything you share with us.
