My weekend

My weekend

Friday night, 7pm- Just sitting at the trendy Chateau Marmont waiting for a friend, Matthew Rolston, for dinner. He shot my first Rolling Stone cover, my Spirit CD cover, and he shot my videos for “Foolish Games” and “Jupiter” (one of my favorite never seen videos!) and “Again and Again.” Gosh- he’s the only director/photographer I have gone back to multiple times I think, because he makes me feel beautiful! He also shot the hair color commercial I did with Beyonce, if any of you remember that. He always makes me feel like I have perfect teeth and a tiny nose! Haha! And I also like him because he is kind and has a calm and quiet temperament. Some photographers are hysterical and high strung divas, and that makes the day seem a lot longer and more painful than it is. I have never really enjoyed photo or video shoots. I have always been kind of self-conscious having all that focus on me all day long. It’s a bizarre process that really took me years to get used to. He and his partner Ted just got here, so I’m signing off.

Saturday night, 7pm- Dinner was fun last night, it was nice to visit and share memories with someone who has known me for so long. I guess I was 21 or so when we first started working together. After dinner Jessica, Virginia (my manager, she's GREAT! She's only 27, but I met her about a year ago when she was running John Rich's label on Warner Bros. She was so sharp and great that I scooped her up when the label dissolved. She had never been a manager before, but she has just been amazing at it, and I feel lucky to have her!), Virginia’s husband, Patrick and I all went to an event for Charlotte Ronson’s clothing launch, and I ran into Sting and his wife, Trudy.  I have met them several times in London, so it was nice to see them again and say hi.  But the party was so loud that I only stayed for 10 minutes, leaving Jessica to have fun, while Virginia and Patrick and I went back to the Chateau to eat dessert and visit. Vanilla berry tart and a banana split with whiskey caramel sauce was much nicer than a loud party! I got home to find my cowboy tucked in bed, tuckered out from a long day of learning the Paso Doble, snoozing away peacefully. So far today I have spent the day writing with Virginia’s husband. Patrick is a great songwriter- we wrote a song called “No Next Time” and finished by 3, so Jessica picked me up and we ate at a new place called Ciccones... So yummy! Then I picked Ty up and we watched Monsters Vs Aliens at The Grove, and went to the Farmers Market. I ate toffee butternut popcorn. Yummy! Ty ordered some Mexican food from a taco stand but it wasn't what he thought; he just sat down with 12 mini samplers of tacos. Order must have been lost in translation!! So we went to a funnel cake stand and shared one of those (not my healthiest dinner!) but he was still hungry so he ate a chili cheese dog!!! With Ty finally full, I hobbled my way back to our car and we head to the apartment. It was a lovely evening.

Sunday morning, 8:37 am- We wake up early. We don't mean to, we just do. Especially Ty. His feet start to tap around 7am like clockwork and that wakes me up finally. Ty and I ate at Basix and then I took him to CBS to film his rehearsal with Chelsie as they did their camera blocking. He likes to look at it afterwards, so they can see what to fix and work on. It’s really coming along! I was worried about him doing a Latin dance again, but he is really committed and is doing a good job getting into the Paso character. He went to rehearsals for the afternoon, and I went to get a mani-pedi with Jessica.  For those of you who don't know her, she is my stylist. Yup- she finds clothing for me! When you see me wear cute dresses it’s thanks to her, like that orange one for when I sang “Over the Rainbow”...or pretty much everything I have worn on TV for the last 11 years! We go way back and are good friends. After that it was such a pretty, sunny day, that we decided to go to the Peninsula Hotel and drink ice tea by the rooftop pool. A lovely way to spend an afternoon! I love to people watch and there can be some good watching by the pool! We were wearing sundresses and laying in the shade, and were able to watch families with their kids in the pool. One father that seemed to really prefer the 2-year-old boy to his 7-year-old girl, which breaks my heart... And there was an affluent, older gentleman with a young, beautiful wife... There were lovely families with kids playing with dolls and having fun in the water.... And a very hairy man who was wearing what I could only imagine were his wife’s shorts. They were too tight and had pink flowers all over them and his kids weren't old enough to be embarrassed. Haha!! Ty called to say he was done around 5, so I headed home and bought some fresh flowers along the way. After putting them in a vase, we headed to dinner at his favorite place- El Compadre. He could eat Mexican food every day of the week! Now we are in bed, snuggling with George and watching WEC extreme fighting on Versus. Tomorrow we will get up and I will cook bacon and egg tacos for Ty (I eat yogurt and berries) and he will go off to the show around 11 am. I will meet him there around 4 to cheer him on and wish him luck. I hope he has a good dance! Never thought I'd say that to my husband, but there it is- a kiss as he goes out the door in the morning- "do good dancing!"
Hope you all enjoy the show- keep up the blogs and talk soon! xxj

Jewel, I so love your nose and your beautiful smile. I am so glad you have not altered them. A great message to all women out there...
*
I was thinking that it may not feel that good to be around people that look perfect. It is a rare women that doesn't feel self critical in that situation.
*
I hope you read my glass slipper poem!
*
I so enjoy your honesty as you write, you are a Jewel for certain.

Me, my husband and family were visiting in California last week and we went to the grove and farmers market for dinner one night. My husband walked around for an hour trying to decide what he wanted to eat cause there were so many options! You think I would be the undecisive one being 8 months pregnant! Just like Ty his order I think was lost in translation as well at the Armenian food stand. Thanks for the great blog and good luck to Ty tonight! We will be voting for him.

It is heartwarming to see that despite your celebrity status, you maintain a sense of what is truly important in this life.

This blog made me very hungry!! :)
Is it just me or is it funny that L.A. is where you're getting awesome meals? You're in trouble since Ty shoots right next to the Farmer's market because there is just endless, great food there and the Grove has awesome shopping.
I'm with Ty....I could eat Mexican food everyday. :)
Sounds like you're having fun being able to catch up with your friends in L.A..
It's so funny your cowboy is off early to go dance...ha ha. Good luck to him tonight!!
Why did the Jupiter video not get released?

I love toffee popcorn mmm, making me hungry now lol. You seemed to have a great weekend :) Although, I don't understand though how you could wake up early on a Sunday morning! I'm terrible at getting up early in the mornings when I have to, so weekends are for sleeping in real late. Yeah I'm lazy haha!!
Hope Ty does well in DWTS again this week!

floridachic1093 | April 6, 2009
Thanks for the update it is really great that you keep us all informed in whats going on we are all behind you. It is really cool that you like to people watch like the rest of us and your days tend to be pretty normal - except for the fact you hang out with Sting and dress designers I do alot of the same things. I love to people watch (best people watching Minnesota State Fair) I saw you in concert there great show and fast food eating love it. The only difference is for the fact that the people I hang out with are old hockey players drinking beer in the arena parking lot someplace.
Good luck to Ty.

niicole13 | April 6, 2009
Hello Jewel, I agree with Nicole, I liked the way you wrote the blog, it felt like a letter from a friend, very cool. I know your in Cali, my former home state, I was raised in Ventura north of LA. I bet the weather is perfect there. Well the weather here in Texas can't make up its mind. Warm one day and cold and windy the next. Saturday was a perfect spring day and then Sunday the horrible winds came and it got cold. It's suppose to warm up towards the holiday weekend though. Why has it been so windy here in Texas this year? Great thing about Texas they say is, "If you dont like the weather wait an hour". Because its always changing.
Anyway love how you stay in touch with us....

THE JUPITER VIDEO IT'S MY FAVORITE I WATCH IT EVERYTIME ON MY IPOD!!!!
MATHEW ROLSTON ROCKS!!!!!!!!
Ebuchszer | April 6, 2009
Ty and I have something in common - I love Mexican food too! As I was reading about your days, they seem so relaxing and great for getting your mind clear and ready for writing. Just think, if you hadn't hurt yourself, you wouldn't be able to enjoy the beautiful weather and the people around you as much!
I am learning my first song on guitar - Enter From the East. I burnt a cd for my guitar teacher.. a mix full of Jewel! haha He decided that EFTE would be a good song to learn as my first. I wanted to do Near You Always but I don't think he was too keen on retuning both our guitars. Maybe next song! thanks for sharing such beautiful music with the world!

Oh yes, Jewel, nothing beats Mexican food at El Compadre there on Sunset! And good Margaritas as well!
If you and Ty find yourself in Sherman Oaks sometime during your stay in L.A. Be sure to stop in to Casa Vega on Ventura Blvd. You and Ty, for sure, will love the Mexican food there!
Alright, have a GREAT Monday night and I'll be sure to catch Ty's dancing tonight.....

Jewel, I’m so happy to see and read a longer blog , thank you for not getting tired of it. My kisses and love goes for you... I’m such a spoiled fan! What a privilege of getting to know you more and more even your friends and people that you meet. I love them all. I always thought, Ty is such a nice person and lovable person like you. Loud party is also not my cup of tea. I’d rather go to a nice but subdued place and sip coffee and eat cake with friends.
*
I like your personality how you struggled and overcame your self- consciousness with too much adulation of lights and camera. I’m a lover of your writings.
If this blog were a food, I had more than enough of the serving and I’m so full. BURP!!! opps, excuse me.... Thank you, Jewel . I’m so nourished today.

Hi Jewel:
I´m hearing a Swedish singer-songwriter called Sophie Zelmani. She´s great! I have heard a song by her called "Black day" and thought it was you at first. The first time I heard her sing jaja.
And for that confussion I dig deeper looking for her music and she´s amazing! Very pure and simple in her music, which I like!
*
The day here in South Spain is very clear, blue sky and the sun shine :) Maybe I go out for a walk!
*
I saw Ty dancing and for me he doesn´t looked that stiff after all. The men in heredance that way when they do the Pasodoble, but who wanna believe in judge.. go ahead! :P I think he did it good!

LOVE blessed you and take care

I saw you in concert 10 years ago in Osaka Japan one of my first dates with the man that is now my husband and father to our our 4 beautiful daughters. Beautiful music then and now. I had a set of twins 7 years ago, the first one out I named Jewel. Like her namesake she has a beautiful ethereal quality to her. I posted her photo on my profile. I wanted to say thank you, as she is everything her name suggests and her name I owe to you. I have a question but would prefer a more private platform outside of a forum :)...possible?
Thank you again.

I stopped for fuel at a convenience store Sunday, and while waiting at the counter to pay, I picked up a western lifestyle type magazine that said "top ten places to live in US." It caught my attention because I was curious to see if Durango was listed. It was not, but guess what city was. Stephenville! Too funny. Listening to how you've been spending your days lately makes me wish I could hang out with you - who doesn't love to get a little pampering, eat, and enjoy a little "girlfriend" time. Would also really enjoy taking in the collaborative writing process - I think I could do it with a little direction to get going. Don't think I've ever mentioned I was born and raised in AK - graduated from Kenai Central High. Odd place to grow up riding horses, isn't it. Am getting a little impatient for Lullaby to get here. What is the process? Chris Isaac is awesome - you two singing together would be cool and interesting. Go figure - we like WEC/UFC too - Mike and Urijah again!

Ty did great last night, I thought the dance was beautiful and the song was a real surprise. I could tell you weren't pleased by what the judges had to say, but I know y'alls fans can pull him through. I've got my fingers crossed for him tonight, Good Luck Ty!

Jewel- I am with Ty on the mexican food. I could eat it everyday as well. I love mexican culture... the colors, haciendas, blue water, sandy beaches, tequila, ahhh.... Sounds like you had a wonderful weekend and lots of good eating. I'm a foodie, so I'm all about good tasting food!
