My weekend
Posted in From Jewel on April 6, 2009
Friday night, 7pm- Just sitting at the trendy Chateau Marmont waiting for a friend, Matthew Rolston, for dinner. He shot my first Rolling Stone cover, my Spirit CD cover, and he shot my videos for “Foolish Games” and “Jupiter” (one of my favorite never seen videos!) and “Again and Again.” Gosh- he’s the only director/photographer I have gone back to multiple times I think, because he makes me feel beautiful! He also shot the hair color commercial I did with Beyonce, if any of you remember that. He always makes me feel like I have perfect teeth and a tiny nose! Haha! And I also like him because he is kind and has a calm and quiet temperament. Some photographers are hysterical and high strung divas, and that makes the day seem a lot longer and more painful than it is. I have never really enjoyed photo or video shoots. I have always been kind of self-conscious having all that focus on me all day long. It’s a bizarre process that really took me years to get used to. He and his partner Ted just got here, so I’m signing off.
Saturday night, 7pm- Dinner was fun last night, it was nice to visit and share memories with someone who has known me for so long. I guess I was 21 or so when we first started working together. After dinner Jessica, Virginia (my manager, she's GREAT! She's only 27, but I met her about a year ago when she was running John Rich's label on Warner Bros. She was so sharp and great that I scooped her up when the label dissolved. She had never been a manager before, but she has just been amazing at it, and I feel lucky to have her!), Virginia’s husband, Patrick and I all went to an event for Charlotte Ronson’s clothing launch, and I ran into Sting and his wife, Trudy. I have met them several times in London, so it was nice to see them again and say hi. But the party was so loud that I only stayed for 10 minutes, leaving Jessica to have fun, while Virginia and Patrick and I went back to the Chateau to eat dessert and visit. Vanilla berry tart and a banana split with whiskey caramel sauce was much nicer than a loud party! I got home to find my cowboy tucked in bed, tuckered out from a long day of learning the Paso Doble, snoozing away peacefully. So far today I have spent the day writing with Virginia’s husband. Patrick is a great songwriter- we wrote a song called “No Next Time” and finished by 3, so Jessica picked me up and we ate at a new place called Ciccones... So yummy! Then I picked Ty up and we watched Monsters Vs Aliens at The Grove, and went to the Farmers Market. I ate toffee butternut popcorn. Yummy! Ty ordered some Mexican food from a taco stand but it wasn't what he thought; he just sat down with 12 mini samplers of tacos. Order must have been lost in translation!! So we went to a funnel cake stand and shared one of those (not my healthiest dinner!) but he was still hungry so he ate a chili cheese dog!!! With Ty finally full, I hobbled my way back to our car and we head to the apartment. It was a lovely evening.
Sunday morning, 8:37 am- We wake up early. We don't mean to, we just do. Especially Ty. His feet start to tap around 7am like clockwork and that wakes me up finally. Ty and I ate at Basix and then I took him to CBS to film his rehearsal with Chelsie as they did their camera blocking. He likes to look at it afterwards, so they can see what to fix and work on. It’s really coming along! I was worried about him doing a Latin dance again, but he is really committed and is doing a good job getting into the Paso character. He went to rehearsals for the afternoon, and I went to get a mani-pedi with Jessica. For those of you who don't know her, she is my stylist. Yup- she finds clothing for me! When you see me wear cute dresses it’s thanks to her, like that orange one for when I sang “Over the Rainbow”...or pretty much everything I have worn on TV for the last 11 years! We go way back and are good friends. After that it was such a pretty, sunny day, that we decided to go to the Peninsula Hotel and drink ice tea by the rooftop pool. A lovely way to spend an afternoon! I love to people watch and there can be some good watching by the pool! We were wearing sundresses and laying in the shade, and were able to watch families with their kids in the pool. One father that seemed to really prefer the 2-year-old boy to his 7-year-old girl, which breaks my heart... And there was an affluent, older gentleman with a young, beautiful wife... There were lovely families with kids playing with dolls and having fun in the water.... And a very hairy man who was wearing what I could only imagine were his wife’s shorts. They were too tight and had pink flowers all over them and his kids weren't old enough to be embarrassed. Haha!! Ty called to say he was done around 5, so I headed home and bought some fresh flowers along the way. After putting them in a vase, we headed to dinner at his favorite place- El Compadre. He could eat Mexican food every day of the week! Now we are in bed, snuggling with George and watching WEC extreme fighting on Versus. Tomorrow we will get up and I will cook bacon and egg tacos for Ty (I eat yogurt and berries) and he will go off to the show around 11 am. I will meet him there around 4 to cheer him on and wish him luck. I hope he has a good dance! Never thought I'd say that to my husband, but there it is- a kiss as he goes out the door in the morning- "do good dancing!"
Hope you all enjoy the show- keep up the blogs and talk soon! xxj

Is it just me or is it funny that L.A. is where you're getting awesome meals? You're in trouble since Ty shoots right next to the Farmer's market because there is just endless, great food there and the Grove has awesome shopping.
I'm with Ty....I could eat Mexican food everyday. :)
Sounds like you're having fun being able to catch up with your friends in L.A..
It's so funny your cowboy is off early to go dance...ha ha. Good luck to him tonight!!

MATHEW ROLSTON ROCKS!!!!!!!!
I am learning my first song on guitar - Enter From the East. I burnt a cd for my guitar teacher.. a mix full of Jewel! haha He decided that EFTE would be a good song to learn as my first. I wanted to do Near You Always but I don't think he was too keen on retuning both our guitars. Maybe next song! thanks for sharing such beautiful music with the world!
LAWRENCE CAROLL (YWMFM & DOWN SO LONG) ALSO DO GREATS VIDEOS!!!
If you and Ty find yourself in Sherman Oaks sometime during your stay in L.A. Be sure to stop in to Casa Vega on Ventura Blvd. You and Ty, for sure, will love the Mexican food there!
Alright, have a GREAT Monday night and I'll be sure to catch Ty's dancing tonight.....

I like your personality how you struggled and overcame your self- consciousness with too much adulation of lights and camera. I’m a lover of your writings.
If this blog were a food, I had more than enough of the serving and I’m so full. BURP!!! opps, excuse me.... Thank you, Jewel . I’m so nourished today.
Much Love,

I´m hearing a Swedish singer-songwriter called Sophie Zelmani. She´s great! I have heard a song by her called "Black day" and thought it was you at first. The first time I heard her sing jaja.
And for that confussion I dig deeper looking for her music and she´s amazing! Very pure and simple in her music, which I like!
