The Bee's Knees

The Bee's Knees

Well, I feel kinda bummed today.
I guess I really over did it on the rehearsal front! My knees have been hurting so badly that I finally broke down and talked to Ty's knee doctor yesterday. He said I have tendonitis in my knees and that I have to start a course of medicine to try and bring the swelling down.  Yuck! It's mainly my left knee, and I can't believe I hurt it so badly... Ty warned me I was over doing it, and now he got a big ol' 'I told you so' in.  The worst part is that I can't rehearse for the next couple days. It was just so fun to dance 8 hours a day- especially considering I only had 3 weeks to cram not only for my first dance- cha cha, but to learn the fundamentals of about 6 other dances that I will have to know. But now I'm just worried I won't even be able to dance! Hopefully these steroids will really do the trick and I can keep bad flare ups at a bay in the future.
I hate being idle! I am happiest when I'm kinda busy- but there's nothing I can do about it but go to rehab and rest. I have my first rehab appointment today, so I will see what that's like. Hopefully it helps the pain. Ty said 'Slow and steady will win the race...' sage advice, but my Russian partner and I have the same work ethic and our motto has been "ATTACK!!" Well, it bit me in the behind, so I will have to bide my time and practice my moves in my head. It's actually really helpful. Anyway, just keeping you guys posted. I will try and do a video blog with Dmitry, so stay tuned...
Glad you guys are excited about "Lullaby" (oh, that is the official title, not "Sweet Dreams For You," though I know an article was written about the album with the incorrect title; but its definitely "Lullaby.")

I'm gonna ice my knee- talk to you all soon!
xxj

eek. I hope your knee gets better soon! As long as you take care of it, I'm sure you'll be fine. and a video blog...YES! that would be ah-may-zing. haha just sayin. :D
I love how you did this blog so quickly. I'm greedy. Keep 'em coming! LOL. ;)
and wow. I didn't know you had to learn the fundamentals of some of the other dances as well. I thought it was one dance a week for the most part and then worry about the rest later. interesting. that's a lot of work! go jewel! hehehe

Hi Jewel,
I HAD to create an account here when I read about your knee pain & tell you what I found!!!
I'm almost 31, and hurt my knees horribly 5 years ago. Until this year, I have had EXCRUCIATING pain every winter since I hurt myself. No ibuprofen, heating pads or ice helped, and the pain would wake me from my sleep.
Hating the smell of fish, I found Vegetable Glucosamine, took it for several months, and am 100% better. I had lost all hope in any amount of recovery, and have zero knee pain now. The pain used to make me cry. I still take about 3 pills a day just for maintenance:)
Here's the link, and I've tried it in both liquid and capsule form. If you'd like to ask your doctor about it, please do!
http://www.betterthangreens.com/Product_275.html
I hope you feel better!! Feel free to ask me any questions.

Oh Jewel,
Yuuck! and OOOcH! I wonder if you have ever tried acupuncture? It works sooo well and is really relaxing. It's a complex medicine and actually can speed healing, reduce swelling and pain. There are also points to strengthen your kidney energy (which in Chinese medicine nourishes the bones, joints, spine, brain, lower back and knees).
*
I am an acupuncturist in my 11th year of practice (I am the one who's kitty died) thx again for the acknowledgement.
*
Your L knee may be a weak point for you, I do think acupuncture would help. It would also help during the competition to continually have your "chi" balanced and your knee/frame supported. It's sounds silly to write, but I will b/c I am silly and I am also a great acupuncturist...email me if you want...

Aww....so sad. Well - it's impossible to be a dancer without ever getting an injury. I've actually had to take a few days off myself, because of an ankle problem. It sucks. I feel your pain.
Hope you feel 100% quickly!

Hey Girl; Hope your knee holds out for the dance, and gets better real soon. Ty is right, take it smooth at first. Huggs, lrocs

I'm glad the title is officially Lullaby. I was listening to Steve's Unraveling this morning and I was just thinking of how cool it would be if you two recorded a duet version of his Lullaby song...to add as a bonus track on your album for example ;)

Hi Jewel, I was fortunate to have met you in KC at your fabulous concert. I fell & permanently damaged my left knee 15 years ago. I have been through every kind of Eastern and Western medication for it, and the bottom line is....when my knee swells due to overuse, it hurts like someone is stabbing me with an icepick. The most immediate and best relief I have found is to get the swelling down and take ibprofun. The fastest way to get the sweeling down is to ice the knee while it is elevated above your heart. This changes the flow of the blood flow and the change is almost immediate. I have a high arm sofa, make a ramp up from my butt to the arm of the sofa, lay down and rest your knee with ice on the ramp, making sure that the level of my knee is higher than my heart. It is better than anything, & when it's really bad, I sleep there and I am like new by morning. Hope this will help you. After all the "Dr.s" & therapy, this was by far the best, easiest and most effective, Karen S.

Hi Jewel:
I´m sorry for your knee. I think you meant "tendinitis" and not tendonitis (which it´s actually an inflammation in the hand/s not the knee jaja ;))
Jesus... poor thing! I hope that inflammation calm down and then... call me and I will give you a good massage, stretchings, mobilizations and heat. Your knee need a good treatment!!!
Hope you are getting better soon!!!
LOVE blessed you, take care

You poor thing! Be careful with your knees, you only get one free pair! I hope they are feeling better soon.

Get well, and take it easy for a bit so you can get back to working hard. You'll pull through because your tough like that and you work hard. You'll catch up. Just be careful for now, until the worst is out of the way. :)

Sorry 2 hear about your knees Jewel. What a bummer. B4 I got into layout designing and web building. I was a massage therapist. Worked 4 "Motion Picture" a majority of the time! Well, I am sure u didn't want 2 know all that. LOL. My point is. "BIO FREEZE" was the grips, my clients & my personal pal. It comes in a blue gel form in white tube. In various sizes. U'r therapist might have it there. Almost sure of it. It's kinda thick, but it does the job u'r swelling will go down 4 sure. It's $10 a bottle. Or maybe that's what I got 4 cost. U can get it at wall greens, wal-mart or any major store.
I'm ganna send u an email 2u incase u don't read this in time. It will have u do the cha cha in no time & give u great relief. As u mentioned. Be sure 2 ice ur knees every so often & have Ty massage the outter tissue from ur knee cap & rub inward also ask Ty 2 rub his hands 2gether til they get hot & place them on ur knee where it hurts. Dr JayJ Santana is now exiting ツ!! ♡JayJ San

Hey Kari,
Jewel has it right. Tendonitis is an accepted variant of tendinitis. Both mean inflammation of a tendon.
Check it out: http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/tendonitis.
Hope our Jewel isn't "standing still" too long!

i am sorry to hear about your knees star child. But you have to considerate of your body and you do over push youreslf it needs a break. Your body is needing to also to be ready to bring a baby forth what with your soul serenading it with a lullaby cd. I know your disapointed but life knows what it is doing and i am sure this is a gift in disguise of what you can not yet see. Maybe you will be able to dance after all, but is it worth it if you really hurt yourself?
take this time for quiet contemplation, maybe to wonder about the water in your body where was it before you? What concious memory does it have that is unknown at this time?
jewel have you ever dreamed you were butterfly then awoke and wondered if it was you dreaming your a butterfly or that your a butterfly dreaming you are a woman?
love you hunny

**MICKIE, APRIL& JEWEL**
Thank you for your kind words. You are very thoughtful.
*
April, I enjoyed seeing you on the video, it was a calm interview, looking as though all 3 of you were relaxed and just enjoying the conversation.
*
Mickie, Wow! What a creative and safe place to start performing. Kudos to you!!! I write poetry and my first reading was @ our town library, there were 7 people and 5 of the 7 were also reading their work. I was still nervous...I think you will find just the right place to perform.

sorry about this post not being directly re to 'our' Jewel. I will add, ACUPUNCTURE Jewel, really, the needles don't hurt! I will come to you and I can stay in the little guest cottage Ty built. Okay and if that gorgeous Dmitri wants a treatment, I will balance his "chi" as well! If I had to... ;}

Girl, watch your mood on those steroids -- they will make you feel like you can conquer the world at first and eat everything in sight, then give you mood swings. Tell Ty to duck :)

Try a whirlpool for your knees, or stay off them for a short time.
We are loking so looking forward to seeing you and Ty dance!
( saw your show at River Wind, again. Great)

Hi Jewel,
Sorry to hear about your knees. Ty is right, rest. In 2002 I was working in a shelter for DSS Teens and got beat up by two girls. 3 ACL reconstructions later and five years, I have had to learn to rest. Its hard at first, but find some crafty things to do around the house. Maybe make some things for future little Murrays you and Ty are going to have. Rest helps. Let Ty Pamper you. I will keep you in my prayre. Barbara on Cape Cod MA

I am so sorry you are in so much pain, but dont give up!! All your fans are behind both you and Ty. I can't wait to see what you guys can do. Take care of your knee and keep rockin' on!

hello jewel, hate to hear about your knee. have to agree with Ty go slow and build up physically.Steroids should help.I have never really watched the show but with you and Ty in it I will.Just imagine dancing as a song you are performing .With every move being a note of music and just flow through it.I know your saying what about the pain but with time and healing hopefully it will fade away. And a few special prayers cant hurt. Wishing you and Ty the best and thanks for the music.kathy

Jewel,
Sorry to hear about your knee and hope it heals quickly - idle is a hard speed after what you have been accomplishing.
By the way - I hope you are practicing your moves in your "head" and not your "heard". Then again - you live on a ranch - it could be either one!
Told you so's suck!
:)
tfboss | February 25, 2009
I hate to hear you have to take steroids, which is not so great for your body but a western medicine quick fix. Please ask your therapist about Hydrotherapy. If done properly it will work wonders for the inflamation and pain. I know because it works for my bursitis. Wishing you the best and I know you will be just fine and dance, dance, dance.
Jille | February 26, 2009
Love the blogs jewel, keep them coming. I ride motocross, and I did not realize how important it is that I ride. It keeps balance in my life. I meet a great group of guys every Saturday and we get some fresh air, a lot of exercise and enjoy the thrill of speed and flying our bikes through the air. With out it I would go stir crazy. But to get on with it us dirtbikers have a saying, "The only bad thing about getting hurt is you can't ride".
Dirtbikers interpretation of ride is "live"
Hope you get well soon so you can really "live" your new pasion. My wife and I will be watching and rooting for you.

Hi LJC:
I know that... Informally you can tell "tendonitis" to every inflammation of a tendon, though tendinitis is the official name. Check it out! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tendonitis
I know between friends is better to speak "informally" ;) jeje
Take care
Kari | February 26, 2009
Ooops...this is just a 'lil set back, in just a few days of rest. You'll go riding again with your dancing shoes. Let Ty rend you a lil’ bit of your “busy bee” thing and you ‘ll do just fine.(listen to papa!) Don’t worry your bee knee will get well soon. I will pray and will keep my fingers crossed for you until you’re on stage for DWTS. Take care, Jewel.

Jewel,
Please try Bikram Yoga. I have tendonitis
in both knees and right elbow. After 3 visits to "Hot Yoga" my pain is virtually gone. I encourage you to look into this wonderful practice. I know this will help you, and allow you to continue on with dancing.

Check out TMZ Jewel, They don't know the difference between Performance inhancing steroids and Cortizone, prednizone, etc. They say "Jewel is the next A roid and admits it on her blog, is it cheating for her to be taking steroids?" They are so dumb. They said you are on steroids and admit it.
Rishere | February 26, 2009
I don't think those are banned for the show... maybe you can do some writing while you're idle? Are you going to come see me in San Diego anytime soon?
Brad | February 26, 2009
Hi Jewel,
It was no surprise to see you were dancing on the show with your musical background, however, being a die-hard, OCD, bullriding fan, I must admit I was shocked to see Ty in the dance "arena"....None-the-less, I am sooooo excited to see that you and Ty are on Dancing With The Stars! I've been telling all of my friends to watch and VOTE.....!!
Being a dancer and someone with knee problems, I can "feel your pain"...Knee problems are the pitts, but with a little time and TLC, you'll be on the mend in no time...I noticed in one of the blogs they suggested BIO-FREEZE...First hand experience here...that's some great stuff!!
You have a great partner in Dimitry.I watched him on So You Think You Can Dance and I think the guy is an incredible dancer, not to mention he'd give Adonis a run for his money...WOW!
Good Luck Jewel, ya'll are going to do great..!! We'll be rooting for you !!
