Maui to Lanai

Maui to Lanai

On a boat that is taking us from Maui to Lanai...

Dark is slowly descending
Powder blue of day giving way to inky blue of night
Stars faint as pin pricks starting to needle their way into the sky, creating a delicate lattice-work of ancient light.
The cold light of those stars is older than my mind can fathom.
Older than the salt in my cells.
Older than the Double Helix that lies within the tiny universe of each cell.

I came here for a show for Sisco. I sang for their company retreat, it went well, nice folks!
Its lovely having a day off and having Ty here makes it that much better. We spent the day on Maui with some friends who live there; Laird Hamilton, Gabrielle Reese, and their two girls.  He's a big wave surfer and she's a vollyball player. We met them on the set of the tv show "Fast Cars and Super Stars," and have stayed in touch ever since.   He surfed for us and they showed us around their house and side of the island. Now we are on the 45 minute ferry ride back to the island we are staying on. We are staying in a mountain lodge on the island. Its exotic, but feels like Aspen oddly enough! (Its probably all the pine trees.)  Cool weather and a cold heavy mist wraps the peaks where we are all day long. It's surreal. After a  20 minute drive down, you are at sea level and in what you think of as Hawaii again. I'm glad we came. Its hard to believe we were in Hong Kong a couple weeks ago.
It feels so good to feel the boat sway as we make our way through the darkness. Just the chug of the engine and the warm wind and salty air on the top deck where I write with the stars...

Hi Jewel
Its sounds really beautiful were you are now. I live on cape cod in MA and my favorite time of year is the winter. I came from New Hampshire and when I got here there was little or no snow. That was back in the eighties, now however, Just a few years ago we the east coast got hit with a great winter storm, almost four feet snow drifts. I was in heaven. Its cold early than usuale this year so I hope that mean snow for christmas. My appatment is right on a pond and I love to watch the snow fall just as day becomes night. One day I hope to go to the Islands, if anything for the great views and good food. Thanks for lifting my spirits Barbara Cape Cod Ma

What a nice post Barbara (above). I too am from cape cod. I grew up in an abandoned cranberry sorting mill, a group of 7 barns, one of witch my Dad made into our home. We had a very rustic upbringing, one stove for heat, gas stove to cook on and no television for a number of years. When Jewel writes or talks of her childhood there are many things I relate to, for instance we had a music room rather then a tv room. We would can tomatoes and make beach plum Jelly...so good, sweet and tart.
Jewel, I thank you for sharing so much of who you are with us, letting us into your life. You have fueled my sobriety as well as my ongoing self acceptance, leading me further into my creativity and spirituality. I began writing poetry 8+ years ago, I have written over 450 poems. Sometimes that # amazes me because they feel effortless to me and they are healing and that always feels good. I will post a poem, It is for you and Barbara.

Poem 1
I desire rest
and sleep
and balance
and guidance
promptings to give up
that which I no longer need
or want
pushing those out
so I can stand
with space around me
and twirl without bumping
or knocking down
I desire room to fluff my dress
and freedom to lie down
Poem 2
lots of insecurities
out there
with weak knees
propped up on high heels
covered up with colored chemicals
and fake flowers
trying to walk the right way
not the way she wants
or, the way she feels
-proud of her flat feet
she tries out different fashions
with insecurities
or false security
on a good day
a good hair day
she waits for a look
or an eye of envy
I bet a bad hair day would bring her closer
Closer to the glass slipper
Sitting, in her closet,
next to the peace her body craves

Jewel, again I’m blown away with your way with words, it feels like a magical night. I can imagine where you’ve been. How you painted the night with the stars in my mind. I can even hear your words inside my head as I read every line of this blog.
I am certain, that you are the oasis of my barren artistry. You amuse me with your style. I can’t help but write this lines for you..(here goes.. though im embarrass to say)
Like a gust of wind,
The muse amuses me with her style
Refreshes my soul with her smile.
Blowing kisses like butterflies,
As I cast my nets to catch while it flies.
Oh with such beauty
Never thought I would find you,
In the unfamiliar poetry, songs and stories
From the journeys you have tread
I read your book to the spine
Makes me shiver to discover
A singer of songs and painter of souls
Who got music in her soul,
And a Voice to sing it too.
Nay! I say to you, not all the singers of a thousand years.
greenpoet | November 25, 2008
(to continue..)
Your mind is fertile as green meadows
Your skin white as snow
I listen to your soul,
As I see the blueness of my own.
I saw million of stars, all singing and twinkling.
But they are not as bright as you have become
While you sing with the night winds.
Nay! I say to you, you are that star whom I call “JEWEL”
So when I look up at the sky, there you are to look upon. :)

this one is a two parter
Seeing Stars (part 1)
I know I am a microcosm version of the Earth my heart be its hearth
My song the Earths song needs to be sung in unison.
Like that of the universe or uni-verse meaning one song
And my dance shall mimic the planet the universe
I shall spin round and round and when I do this I will be able to see the stars in my mind
Am I a bright point of light traveling through the skies of my mind?
Only when I close my eyes can I see this.
So I wonder are we and the planet viewing the universe with closed eyes?
My that is a long time to have closed eyes for I know when I close my eyes that long I fall asleep. Are we asleep?
Row row row your boat gently down the stream merrily merely mirrorly life is but a dream. Is it?
What would the universe look like with open awake eyes? Row row row your boat gently down the stream merrily merely mirrorly life is but a dream. Is it?
What would the universe look like with open awake eyes?

Another time we see stars and this is mostly depicted in cartoons when we have been hit on the head and suffered a form of head trauma; which then sometimes messes with our perception of the world distortion of reality?
Or maybe the bending of the maya veil?
What about celebrities whom we call stars?
We see them as bright lights something to admire and look up to
To wonder and dream about
Perhaps seeing stars in our eyes is trully seeing ourselves and each other?
Do the heavens see us as celebrities as well?
Do they see us as Earths cells in liberty?
Now we are learning that we are all made of light that we all shine not just a few of us.
I wonder do we look like stars to the universe that looks at us?
As I a light worker, on this planet, I now know I am not alone and it is a glorious feeling.
I wonder about our light pattern? As stars and lights on earth are we symbols?
Are we patterns and designs in divine sacred geometry formation?
Are we a constellation civilization?
jessicamystic | November 25, 2008
Am I here in this place I am now holding as my position to acupuncturing the planet and radiating out and around like a ripple effect to the other lights held in place?
What story does our pattern tell?
Does it depict an animal or an arch type God inspiration?
I look up at the heavens and see stars and as it is below so it is above
Stars at the bottom of the sea and stars inside of me
So the heavens look to earth and see us as stars.
part 2 Shine Bright Lights Unite
Humanity celestial mirror prophesy
A follow up to seeing stars poem
So the question arose to the creator can the souls go to earth and maintain their lights? It sounded like challenge a cosmic reality show perhaps. That planet that school, Earth is like a Harvard university for creators in training. Oh my that place is intense, ok you want a challenge lets see if you last a physical incarnation on Earth with out letting your light diminish? As I over hear this conversation I think about a pet that is left far away from

their owners and the distance is great they can not see home but they can feel it and they use their super senses to find home such is the case with humanity and our journey home. Shine bright so the other light bright souls might be able to find one another and shine together. Can you just imagine what that would look like from space? To me it looks like one big bright light co-collection, something like a sun. We will be the Lights Unite Knights! Our realization that we are home, it is in us all we need to do is shine, shine hold our light thru the darkest of dark and harsh winds and big waves. This is the divine original language the language of light so shine bright send your soul-sol-soulular messages to the heavens. Let them know we are self realized and ready to play in other worlds. In the kingdom of many mansions
Would we not then be Gods son/sun self realized?

How awesome.
I love the poem :)
I am vacationing on Maui too funny enough :D Its been great! I have been here for three weeks almost though and will be glad to get back to Alaska.
That poem is perfect, from my hotel I can see Lanai right now and it was pretty cool to see you are around here too :)

Glad to see some poetry flowing...
I will throw a few lines into the inky blue of night....
and then reach for them
slowly
trying to arrange
them into something
I recognize
as peace,
or innocence,
or anger,
or beauty......
or anything
but the dullness
of a
heart,
heavy
from spending
too much time looking,,,,,
for
something
else.

Hi Jewel,
Ahhh yes... A STAR writing among the stars... poetry. Love the blog and the pictures you paint with words. Hope you, Ty and friends are having a wonderful time. You so deserve it. Looking forward to seeing you sing on TV Thursday.... i'm sure it will be great. Happy Thanksgiving!!!
I have a little goofy poem too, but mine is a little self serving (sorry had to try).
I look forward so to that concert in January
the road to Merrillville i'm sure long and weary
Wishing upon a star, crossing my fingers, toes, hands and feet
can you hook a brother up with a meet and greet? LOTS O'LUV

Jewel, my poetry is nothing without the vine, you. Here's another one for you.
PAINT ME A SONG
You color my life
Bringing me sunshine of sunlit sky
Paint me a song
Sing me your symphony
Hum a tune or two
Penned with different notes and strokes
Strum a guitar, a key to my heart
And delight your fingers
In every string.
Tonight as the moon sleeps
The stars will awaken
Though the leaves are silent
The dews of your melody scatter
Like fireflies after the rain.
So paint me a song
Let me hear your voice
Every beat of your song
Makes my heart sing along
greenpoet | November 25, 2008
You are amazing... Every word and song seems to be the soundtrack to my life. I thank you for that. Makes some days that much easier to get through listening to you. Grace- Toledo, OH

Zweet poem....
(Potential Zong?)
Zoundz nice Maui..
It zeemz otherz have added
poemz...
Zo I zhall add one too...
****************
My Guitar
And so my guitar
my unfailing friend
Who remains at my side
until the end
Never to speak
only to cry
to someday hope
To kiss the sky
The music soothes
and calms the soul
The music pleases
a man not whole
Each day he has
a new found friend
to bide the time
not make amends
For when you gaze
around you'll see
the one not there
yours truly,me
Is off somewhere
playing guitar
not too near
but not too far
The sacrifice I give
To only you
Is one not matched
So quite untrue
So take my soul
and take my heart
but with this guitar
I shall not part
For it has seen me
Thru thick and thin
The irony
the call of sin
Another star
another place
forgive me when
I drift to space.

You should check out one of my favorite books of poetry, besides yours of course: VOYAGE INTO THE SUNSET by Ashley B. Sanders. I got a really old copy of it at half price books one day and it's stayed in my collection since. Your poem reminded me of his poem, "Sitting on the Beach."
kitkat0229 | November 26, 2008
I think Lanai was my favorite island, it was so quiet. One town, one road. I made friends with someone who used to be my enemy on that island. To this day he's the best friend I've ever had.
Thanks for who you are, it helps me. Looking forward to seeing you perform again in March.

My sister has lived on Lanai for years as an artist. Her specialty is watercolors - Hawaiian classic.
Koele is a great get away. Glad you enjoyed it. I have a lot of memories at Manele Bay as well.

I can't help but add another poem to this chain of creativity.
*****
Jewel, i think you are proud of your fans and our creative efforts. This poem was written as I was fantasizing about my 'dream lover'. 7 years later he is 'upstairs' and my husband.
***
My window is open
*
This breeze I can melt into
*
It is crisp
And soft
*
I let it touch my senses
Softly it does
*
The essence of a November rain
And the energy of bare trees
Pressed neatly on the sky
*
They are proud, you know
While some people are sad, they are proud
And erect
*
I want to lay with them
Like them
With my lover in our bed
Naked and spent
And filled
*
So filled
*
I will show him the branches
Grey and pointing upward
I will tell him that this is where I am going
I will cry and hold him
and tell him
he can be true to himself
*
he can release his passion into me
I will tell him not to hold back
I will tell him it is perfect
He is perfection
*
I will melt into softness
And his firmness
*
And my light
Into my truth

How can I ever be stopped from writing poems for Jewel, if she is the vine that makes sense to my search for the divine.
YOUR VOICE
Your voice so sweet sounding,
It soothes me.
Calms me down and snoozes me,
Like the voice of an angel with magical tones.
I can see the artist’s colorful palette
As I am full of awe.
Your voice unencumbered as you strike,
the low and stratospheric high notes
with depth and thickness like the waves
of the sea.
All like your wispy but powerful voice
I could listen to it forever like a sweet lullaby,
Your voice you were born to have :)

Jewel,
Danny Murray and I are in Maui living there for a while till his foot get's better, I wished I'd known you were there with Ty. Sounds like you guys had fun! I'm in Vegas right now visiting my parent's and will be back in Maui on the 11'th. I never got a chance to meet you when you came into Terrible's casino a few times, but I wanted too... there were allot of thing's that were happening back then, and I had so many question's for Danny. He finally told me thing's.. and now I understand. I wanted to talk to you about that because it has haunted me for this long. I wanted to tell you what was happening to me, and come to find out you were experiencing some of the same thing's I was about 3 years ago... It was so spiritual.. I didn't know it was even humanely possible. We talk about you sometimes still, but one day maybe I'll explain to you what really happened.
Your beautiful darlin, Take care
Till then... Memorylanez@gmail.com if you want to talk..
Luv Alicia xo
